Commonly Asked Questions

How do I schedule a photo session?

Contact me by email or phone 780-916-3294.  We will have a pre-session consultation by phone to decide on location, wardrobe, and help me get to know your family.  Once we set a date and time, I will send you the online contract.  Your session is considered scheduled and date held once I receive your contract and session fee.

When are photo sessions?

Weeknight sessions are available from Mid March to Mid October. Weekdays between 10am and 1pm are the most available times to book during the school year.

Maternity sessions can take place at your home or at an outdoor location. You are welcome (and encouraged) to book a maternity and newborn or Fresh 48 session together and receive a package deal.

Fresh 48 sessions take place at the location of birth within the first two days of life. Fresh 48 is special because there are very few (if any) things more raw, important and emotional in life than having a baby.  For a lot of moms and parents the first couple of hours and days after delivery can be a blur because of all the changes, actual labor and post delivery. I want you to REMEMBER how beautiful the two of you looked as brand new parents. I want you to REMEMBER how it felt to look at your brand new baby and to DETAIL how fresh and new they looked just coming into the world. There’s nothing like it.

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I love to capture moments of the newest family member snuggled with mom, dad, siblings and beloved pets.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If it rains or is too cold we will reschedule. However, be prepared and dressed appropriately for the length of your session. This is Alberta and our weather changes in the blink of an eye.

What happens if someone is ill?

Please let me know as soon as possible if one of your family members is sick.  I will reschedule since it is very difficult and hard to capture smiles and joy when someone isn’t feeling well.

Where do we go for our photo session?

I travel within a 25 km radius of my home in South Edmonton, which includes a wide variety of great locations.  Your home is also an option if you would like an In-Home portrait session.  Travel fees will apply outside of my 25 km radius.

How long does a photo session last?

Family sessions are typically about an hour and about two hours for newborn sessions. Plan on arriving 15 minutes before your session starts. You don’t want to be stressed due to arriving late.  Much beyond an hour, the kids (and the husbands) are done. Newborn sessions take longer to account for diaper changes, feedings etc.

What do we wear?

I suggest clothing/colors that coordinate but are not too “matchy”.  Try choosing two colors that coordinate with each other and then mix in black, white, gray, khaki and brown. Please try to avoid logos on shirts or too much prints or patterns.

How do you deal with kids?

Kids can be crazy, wild and fast! But I’m fast (and can be a little crazy too). I want to capture this energy in your photographs because they will be teenagers soon enough and they won’t laugh their heads off at potty talk!  I have found the best way to work with children is to have you engaged with them as parents.  I want you to play together, laugh together and enjoy your time.  And just a note… sometimes a little bribery helps.

What do I need to bring with me?

I suggest a bag to put phones, bug repellent and snacks/water for the kids if needed.  If your child might need a snack to keep them going, try to bring something that will not stain their face or teeth.

I want to do an in home newborn photo session but my house is small, dark and not beautifully decorated like a magazine. What do you suggest?

Your house is your home!  It is where your family lives and loves each other. We can decide which rooms you want to use and you can just tidy up those rooms.  If it’s too dark, we can embrace the shadows and its amazing what beautiful photos can captured with just one window.

I’m nervous!  What can I do to help things go smoothly?

Try to relax, have fun and don’t worry too much about how your kids are going to behave.  I will guide you and we will let your children play and get a mix of posed and also play/fun images. I am a mom of three boys and have seen and heard it all. I don’t want perfect behaviour because that isn’t real and I want to capture REAL!

How long before I can see my images?

Your full gallery will be available to view in 2-3 weeks after your session.
