I direct and guide families before and during a family photo shoot to help them relax and have fun so that I can capture them with their natural smiles and personalities. Oh my gosh, this family was so fun to take photos of! Many of you reading this will recognize this incredibly special woman because she is a bit of an educational celebrity in our neighbourhood. She is well loved and highly respected by anyone whose child has been lucky enough to have her as a teacher. When I volunteered in her classroom, I would actually go home and write down tips and methods that she would use in her classroom so I could try to use these with my own kids. My mom was a kindergarten teacher so I would get in trouble if I said that Danielle was my favourite kindergarten teacher but I am going to say that it is a tie between the two of them.
I loved every minute that I spent with this wonderful family. Because of this photo shoot, I got to know Danielle on a more personal level and I spent two hours chatting and laughing with her husband and their four children. There is so much love wrapped up in this family of six. And a whole lot of silliness and fun. What I really took away from this session was how comfortable everyone is “in their own skin.” There were no pretences or cool attitudes that often comes with preteens and teens. They were just being who they were and I loved that so much. It exuded confidence and self acceptance and that is what every parent wants for their own child. If only I could have been that way when I was a teenager! I’ll have to ask Danielle for some parenting tips in how to instill these traits into my own kids. I know that I am gushing about this family, but the kids also truly enjoyed each other’s company. I would say “group hug” and they would just laugh and hug away. I would say “tell someone a secret” and they would whisper and then laugh their heads off.
Finally, it touched me to see a couple so in love. The world needs more love like this. I love photography and my passion for it took me down the road into opening a business. I knew that I would love taking photos of families and help them capture moments in time that they would cherish forever. However, I had no idea that such special families would give me back so much. With ever photo session I learn so much from families to take back into my own personal life. Thank you Danielle and Shaun for letting me be a part of your world for a few wonderful hours.
