What is a Rainbow Baby?
A “rainbow baby” is a baby that is born following a miscarriage or still birth, neonatal death or infant loss.
“In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison. The storm (pregnancy loss) has already happened and nothing can change that experience. Storm-clouds might still be overhead as the family continue to cope with the loss, but something colourful and bright has emerged from the darkness and misery.”
We lost our first baby on her due date as a result of a cord accident. Our lives changed in a moment and we were changed forever. We waited three long years for our Rainbow Baby. We never stop missing Ella and although she is no longer with us, she grows up in our minds and hearts.
Our boys have filled our lives with hope and love again. All our babies have been a true gift. Ella gave me the gift of motherhood, Casey gave me my heart back, Oliver gave me my courage back and Emmett gave me the gift of acceptance.
Healing is a lifetime endeavour and journey. I feel the need to give back in order to keep Ella present in my everyday life and to honour her memory.
Every 1-2 months I give away one free session and all digital photos to a family who will soon welcome a Rainbow Baby.
